Co-developed in partnership with our UBC Knowledge Exchange and Mobilization (KxM) Scholars, the KxM Research to Impact Fellowship Program is an immersive seven-week training program that equips UBC graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with practical, marketable skills to support careers (within and beyond academia) that are focused on KxM.
Fellows in the program will have the opportunity to collaborate with our community partner Foundry BC* and bridge the gap between research and real-world impact. Together, they will co-design solutions to address a critical challenge: translating research into actionable practices and policies. Fellows benefit from advancing their KxM skills, the development of a professional portfolio, and membership in a vibrant community of practice. Through a structure that combines in-person workshops, asynchronous learning, and hands-on experiential projects, the program will help prepare participants for dynamic careers across academia, government, non-profit organizations, industry and beyond.
*Foundry BC is a province-wide network of integrated health and wellness services for young people ages 12-24. Their integrated services make it possible for young people to access five core services in one location: mental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth and family peer supports, and social services. Program Overview
- Hands-On Collaboration: Working in cross-disciplinary teams, fellows will tackle a real-world KxM challenge proposed by our community partner (Foundry BC). Each team will receive mentorship from KxM scholars and community partners to co-develop responsive solutions.
- Community-Centered Learning: Collaboration with community partners is central to the program, ensuring that training content and project outcomes align with and support community-identified priorities and meaningful engagement. Participants will learn best practices to integrate principles of EDIA into KxM efforts.
- Professional Development: Develop marketable KxM skills such as partnership building, communication, and project design. Build a portfolio featuring tools such as knowledge product proposals, and partnership templates.
- Innovative Training Model: Through a combination of seminars, team collaboration, and self-directed activities, fellows will co-create a proposal that addresses the community partner's needs. The experience culminates in a final pitch event, where teams present their solutions to a panel of community partners and KxM experts.
- Certification and Networking: Upon completion, fellows will receive a certificate and join an ongoing KxM Community of Practice.
- Participant Honorarium: Fellows will receive a honorarium of $500 to support their participation in this program.
