KxM Research to Impact Training Program

Gaining skills in knowledge exchange and mobilization (KxM) can help you increase the impact of your research.

Research to Impact: Skills, practices and tools for KxM is an eight-week training program designed for members of the UBC community — including faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and researchers — whose research aims to create social impact through informing practice and policy and/or expanding public conversation.

This training program is for you if:  

  • You are a UBC researcher, staff, or graduate student currently engaged in research with non-academic partners or have a desire to do partnered research.  
  • You would like your research to make a social impact, informing practice and policy or expanding public conversations.  
  • You are currently doing research, or you are applying for a research grant.

If you have already applied, you will be notified of your acceptance into the program by December 1, 2023. 

This training program is likely not suitable for you if:  

  • You cannot commit to the entirety of this program (including attending weekly zoom sessions and completing course activities).   
  • Your KxM skills and knowledge are already at an advanced level
  • Your research is strictly focused on commercialization and technology transfer (please contact UBC University-Industry Liaison Office for support in this area).  
  • Your research is at the discovery stage (i.e., bench research).  
  • You are a UBC student of staff member who is not involved with an active research project or team.

Format:  

The program will be delivered as a combination of short learning modules and activities (on Canvas) and weekly interactive presentations and discussions with KxM experts (via Zoom on Thursdays, 1:00 – 2:30 pm). 

It will run from January 11 to March 7 (break: February 19 - 23, 2024)

Please note: to receive a certificate of course completion, you must complete all activities on Canvas and attend weekly zoom sessions over an eight-week period (approximate time commitment of 5 hours per week).
